Well FINALLY got my head into gear, to look at the 'BUTTER TUB' today (haven't so much as looked at it since the 'T' Party, as I was so mad at it)
To See if I could figure why it wasn't firing at the bash
Did loads of pre strip tests
Fuel down the plug (in-case it wasnt getting any due to a bad Carb)
Oil into the chamber (in-case the ring was leaking)
Change the Carb (Although it seemed to be fine)
Changed the insulator block an gaskets at the bash for a standard one (I run the alloy block an Teflon gaskets as a rule)
Re-set the coil gap (Although it was fine)
Checked for spark (Had a great spark)
But NOTHING
Could I feck as like figure it out
Getting fuel
Great spark
Loads of compression
No visable Gasket leaks
Had a brew, watched some TV, chilled for an hour, an then took the engine out of the car
Stripped it, an STILL couldn't find anything
Nothing wrong with the head (no scoring, an plating was fine)
Piston was fine
Ring seemed fine
Con rod bearings seemed fine
All Gaskets seemed leak free
So stripped off the
Clutch
Clutch carrier
Flywheel
An checked the crank case seals an bearing
There seemed to be a little slop in them, an the Clutch side one looked to be leaking very slightly
So stripped the Crankcase in half
An gave each side a little 'Wiggle'
The clutch side bearing seemed to have more play than the flywheel side
So I got out my spare engines, an spare crankcases an did a few tests
Trying 3 sides against each other
3 flywheel crankcase half's
3 clutch crankcase half's
An the clutch side crankcase off my current engine seemed the worst of the 3
So took the best of the other 2, an the best flywheel crankcase side
An built it all back together again
kept the current Gaskets (mainly as I didn't have any new ones), an due to the fact I wasn't holding out much hope of anything, as I was pretty down heartened with the whole thing currently
The Buggy is FAULTLESS, but I've been plagued with engine problems for an AGE now, Just one thing after another
So got it all built back up, put my alloy insulator block back on, an the Teflon gaskets
Same carb
Same coil pack, re-set the gap
same gaskets
same crank
Same piston an ring
Same head
Same fuel
Same EVERYTHING, baring that one half of the crankcase on the clutch side
Connected up the fuel lines (didn't put it in the car, didn't hold out much hope)
Primed the carb
Choke on
One pull ............. COUGH .............
Choke off
Second pull ......... FIRE ...........
..........
TOTAL SHOCK
Hit the stop button ................ Ok, GRIN time
put it all back into the Buggy
Nervously give it a pull .............. Fire first time ...............HOLY MOLY BATMAN
But reving very high, so wind out the idle screw, NOTHING, so not that
Richen up the low end, an that dropped it back nicely, so tune was out slightly, most likely due to the leak
Ok connected up the Carb slide, an the electrics an test the failsafe ........... Cool working fine
Took it out in the garden an its going GREAT GUNS
So only thing I can think after this long winded essay of a post, is that the seal/bearing was loosing compression on the Clutch side of the crankcase
An that stopped it firing
as I haven't done, or changed anything else
Anyway, currently its working again, so My mood has lifted slightly, an I still love my buggy
Might NOT sell it now
